The trip that got cancelled: Montenegro with Ryanair

The trip that got cancelled: Montenegro with Ryanair
Every once in a while, the low cost carriers of Europe (such as Ryanair, Wizzair and the likes) sell tickets so dirt cheap that it's almost more expensive to stay at home than to go. And while I'm not their biggest fan, they do make travelling possible for more people. I also have a dream of visiting every country in Europe, so I was not going to pass on this opportunity. Return tickets to Montenegro for less than 20 Euros including taxes? Yes please!

After securing the tickets, I started looking at accommodation and things to do while in Podgorica, Montenegro. Hotel prices were low with Swedish standards, so I decided on a quite fancy four star hotel downtown (roughly €100 for three nights), and found a company that organised trips to neighbouring Albania for affordable prices. Score! Two new-to-me countries for the price of none (not really, but certainly not far from it).

But alack and alas, this trip was not meant to be. While in Dubai, I contracted some sort of illness that messed with my stomach, leading to cramps and fever. I soon got well enough to fly home, but back home in Sweden, it only took a couple of days until I woke up in the wee hours with severe pain in the chest, shoulder and left arm. Long story short - the Dubai disease for some reason affected the heart as well, and I had to spend a couple of days in hospital to run numerous tests and monitor my heart. Myocarditis. The doctor in charge deemed me unfit for work for 2-3 weeks, and physical activity was prohibited for two months. There went my Montenegro trip out the window. But health comes first, so cancelling the trip was a no-brainer. Montenegro and Albania will have to wait.

A big thank you to the doctors in charge, but also to Hotel M Nikic in Podgorica, who kindly refunded the whole cost for the hotel.

My next trip did happen, though, so a "real" trip introduction is coming next week!
