In June 2017, my wife and I travelled to Hawaii, where we spent three weeks on the islands of O'ahu, Hawai'i ("Big Island") and Kaua'i.
I hadn't started making any trip reports then, but I still took a lot of pictures, so I thought I'd throw in this throwback series, almost one year after we went on this trip. In this photo essay, I'll show the islands in pictures, with one post for each island that we visited.
The islands were quite different from each other, and all of them were spectacular in their own ways. If I could only choose one to return to, it would have to be O'ahu, with the capital Honolulu. A lovely city with lots of people, but still a laid-back attitude. The main attraction in the Hawaiian islands is the nature though. The islands are absolutely gorgeous, and the scenery is ever-changing. The best example of that is Big Island, were the leeward side was covered in lava deserts, whereas the windward side had lush rainforests. Throw in crystal clear waters, active volcanoes and some of the freshest seafood you'll find, and you understand why we'll want to return to the Aloha State.
For you AvGeeks, I'll throw in the itinerary as well, but in the following posts, the photos will speak for themselves, and there will be no airline or hotel reviews.
The itinerary once we came to Hawaii looked like this:
2017-06-24: Arriving in Honolulu on United Airlines flight UA1670 from San Francisco (SFO)
2017-07-03: Hawaiian Airlines flight HA278 from Honolulu (HNL) to Kailua-Kona (KOA)
2017-07-11: Hawaiian Airlines flight HA599 from Kailua-Kona (KOA) to Lihue (LIH)
2017-07-17: Hawaiian Airlines flight HA364 from Lihue (LIH) to Honolulu (HNL), and then back to Europe with United Airlines via San Francisco.
