Hotel review: Sandhamn Seglarhotell, Stockholm

Hotel review: Sandhamn Seglarhotell, Sandhamn (archipelago of Stockholm)

Location of Sandhamn Seglarhotell in the archipelago of Stockholm - they call it a "posh hotel", but we'll see about that in this review, won't we?

Since we were here for a conference, we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel rooms. We had the conference, then some of us went for a walk around the island, and then the day ended with a dinner in the hotel restaurant. The next day, we checked out after breakfast. But I still took some pictures of the room in order to write a short review, so here goes!

The main building of the hotel contains the lobby and the restaurant, whereas most (all?) of the rooms are in adjacent houses that can be reached through some corridors and stairs. The corridors were always quite dark, even in the middle of the day.

Getting closer to the room...

Here we are!

The bed was comfortable enough, and the duvet and pillows were thick and cozy, so sleeping was definitely not a problem here. The view from the room was a little boring, though.

The bathroom felt a little dated. It was clean, but both the light and the shower made it feel a lot older than I'm guessing it was. The house in which our hotel room was located didn't look that old, but the room in itself, and especially the bathroom, felt a little old.

The hotel restaurant (where all meals were served) was located in the main building, with some nice views of the water. The food was decent, but the staff weren't friendly. Most of them seemed bored to be there, and they were not service minded at all. I would definitely not recommend this hotel based on that. But they don't have much competition on this small island, so maybe they don't have to care that much. I'm sure they get enough guests anyway, since the island is a popular destination for Stockholmers during summer.

Coffee, apple juice, scrambled eggs, bacon and yoghurt. That's really all I need from a breakfast buffet!

So there you have it! Decent food but unfriendly staff. Rooms also decent but nothing spectacular, and not that good value for money. If you intend to spend the night on Sandön, it's an option to consider, but mainly because competition is basically non-existent.
