I've finally decided to start posting this trip report as well. It'll be fun to have all (or most) of my 2018 flights in one place, complete with pictures and all. However, I intend to write significantly shorter airline reviews, and just include some basic information to go with the photos.
It's time for another trip to Asia! I actually booked this trip way back in January, and had to wait nine months until actually travelling. In January, Qatar Airways had a great sale on their tickets, both in economy and business class. Return tickets to Singapore went for less than €500, but business class tickets were also great value, especially considering the fact that Qatar Airways were awarded best airline in the world in 2017, and best business class in the world in 2018.
Qatar offer the possibility to travel in one cabin class one way, and another class the other way, so I started looking at that, and ended up booking Stockholm-Doha-Singapore in economy class, and Singapore-Doha-Stockholm in business class. Sure, it was more expensive than travelling in coach all the way, but I still only paid a three digit amount for all four flights, which is great value for intercontinental business class.
About one month before the trip, Qatar issued a statement that they were to introduce their updated "QSuites" business class cabin on their QR171/172 flights between Doha and Stockholm on October 28, two days before my flight. I kept checking the booking on a daily basis to see if my flight got changed to one with the QSuite configuration. And sure enough, on October 1, my flight got upgraded, so I got to try out their QSuites. And wouldn't you know it?! They switched my flight from Singapore to Doha to a brand new A350-1000, also with their QSuites product, so I got to fly all the way from Singapore to Stockholm in what many consider to be the best business class experience in the world. I was excited to say the least... But before that, I was also looking forward to try out the economy class of Qatar, in order to compare it to Emirates. I was also looking forward to visiting Singapore, as this trip was not just about the flights - Singapore was a destination that I had been fascinated by for quite some time.
The itinerary for this trip:
2018-10-27: QR170 B787-800 economy class, Stockholm to Doha
2018-10-27: QR942 A350-900 economy class, Doha to Singapore
2018-10-30: QR945 A350-1000 business class, Singapore to Doha
2018-10-30: QR171 A350-900 business class, Doha to Stockholm
