The location of Hôtel Eugénie in Paris

I apologise beforehand for a couple of disturbing images, but in the interest of this review, I'm gonna keep them... They are regarding the cleanliness of the hotel room, so there will be no photos of cockroaches or me in my underwear or anything like that... ;)

Like I mentioned in the trip report introduction, this was our third trip to Paris. On both previous occasions, we had stayed in the 8th arrondissement (the city districts that Paris are divided into). This time, we wanted to stay in another area, and we felt like the 6th was the right choice for this trip. The 6th is close to Île de la Cité, the island in the Seine where Notre Dame is located. It was also within walking distance of the Musée d'Orsay which we wanted to visit.

Hôtel Eugénie is located just a stone's throw from Place Saint-Michel, where the train from CDG stops, so it was really easy to get to the hotel from the airport (and back again).

Our first impression was that the hotel was kind of small (like almost every hotel in Paris) - both lobby, hallways and rooms were small. But that in itself isn't a big problem in my opinion, as long as you don't expect something bigger. What was a problem, however, was that the hotel was kind of dirty.

Classic layout: Short corridor leading to the bed. Bathroom to the right.

The bed was a little too hard for me. The first night went OK, but after the second night, I woke up with a backache. Since the room was so small, there wasn't really room for anything apart from the bare necessities. I was impressed though that they managed to squeeze a minibar into the cupboard next to the bed. I seldom use the minibar in hotel rooms, but having a refrigerator for water/juice bought outside is always welcome.

Safe, located on the other side of the bed

View from the room - nothing to get excited about

I couldn't decide (and still can't) if I liked or disliked the floors...

Alright, it's time for the gross pictures. It wasn't so bad that we had to request another room (and something gives me the feeling that it wouldn't be better in other rooms), but the room was kind of filthy, at least in certain places. The walls were stained, and the telephone and towel racks were dusty. And don't get me started on the remote control...

Writing desk, it may look OK from afar, but let's take a closer look...

Eww!

Dusty telephone

Stained walls

Another bad thing was that the wifi didn't work at all during our stay, and the signal was really bad, so we couldn't really use the regular network either. I guess this hotel is the place to go if you need a digital detox, since your phones won't work and you won't want to touch the remote control to start the TV...

The bathroom was decent enough for this short stay, though, although they didn't refill the toiletries. We had enough to last us two days, but I wasn't impressed.

Pretty basic bathroom - nothing fancy

Do I dare to enter the bathroom after finding out how filthy the rest of the room was?

Turns out the bathroom was fresh enough *phew*

Not the best toiletries I've tried. And they weren't refilled.

We didn't have any breakfast included in our room rate, but could add it for an extra €14 per person. Not worth it. Just outside there were many other options, and we had a delightful French breakfast for €7 instead, while soaking up the Parisian atmosphere. But I forgot shots of the lobby and exterior again. I need to step up my hotel review game...

All in all, the location was perfect for our stay. The hotel in itself wasn't that good, though. I'd say it's unlikely that we'd choose it again.
