Location of Steigenberger Airport Hotel at Schiphol (AMS)

Considering the fact that EVA Air had just messed up my connection at Schiphol (AMS), I wasn't all too happy about spending a night in the Steigenberg Airport Hotel. But the hotel turned out to be really good, and it wasn't their fault that I was there, so I'll try to put the negative feelings aside and give this hotel the good review that it deserves.

The hotel is located some 10-15 minutes from the airport, but they provide free shuttle service every 30 minutes. Luckily, I only had to wait for around ten minutes before the shuttle arrived at AMS to pick me up. The minivan was almost full, but check in was smooth anyway, and I was soon on my way to my room on the fifth floor. Sadly, there were no views of any runway action of any kind, but that's basically the only flaw of this hotel.

Walking down the corridor on the fifth floor

Found my room! Apparently, they have green Fair Trade rooms at Steigenberger Airport Hotel

The room was spacious enough. It was clean and fresh, and the AC was working just fine. That's really all I ask of in a hotel room.

This seems spacious enough! The bathroom is to the left here, and we'll get to that in a second - first, we'll take a look at that sign on the wall

So this is what the "green Fair Trade room" meant...

Clean and fresh bathroom

I was too tired to take a bath, but it was a good shower

Fair Trade toiletries

The room had a safe and water kettle/instant coffee. However, since I didn't really spend any time here, I didn't use any of it. I checked out of the room early the next morning, after having breakfast at the hotel restaurant.

Excellent bed

I slept like a baby for about eight hours (which was a lot more than I had slept before during this trip...), and after a quick shower, I headed to the restaurant for breakfast. There was a big selection of both food and drinks, but I settled on scrambled eggs, bacon and a delicious Bircher muesli - my fourth on this trip.

I might have to start making my own Bircher muesli when I get home - this was my fourth in three days, and boy where they tasty!

The restaurant was actually quite crowded, but I managed to find a quiet area

After breakfast, I checked out just as smoothly as I had checked in, and then took the shuttle bus back to Schiphol to finally board the last flight of this trip. This had been a great stay, and I could definitely see myself stay here again if I ever needed an airport hotel in Amsterdam. The staff were friendly, professional and efficient, the hotel was clean, spacious and fresh, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I can't really find any cons at all about this hotel (except for the lack of runway views...)

About to head back to Schiphol (AMS)
